Programme for companionship and reduction of unwanted loneliness in people over 65 years old

In April 2023, the Amancio Ortega Foundation and the Red Cross reached an agreement to launch an innovative programme to reduce unwanted loneliness, social isolation and the “digital divide” suffered by people over 65. Thanks to the collaboration between the entities, 26,000 people from all over Spain will get voice-activated devices in their home with specific applications that will contribute to their autonomy and companionship.

The project includes the installation of the devices and, where necessary, the installation of an internet connection. In addition, the Red Cross network of volunteers will provide companionship for and train the beneficiaries of the programme. This project will last for three years and has an approximate budget of 15 million euros, which is fully funded by the Amancio Ortega Foundation.
