Intergenerational centers in Galicia
During the development of the Escuelas Infantiles de Galicia project, the Amancio Ortega Foundation identified the opportunity to extend the scope of its intervention in two of the nine beneficiary councils through a more complete type of pioneering social installation in Spain: the intergenerational center.
As a result of this decision, the design of the nursery schools designed for Arteixo and Ourense incorporated into their facilities spaces for the care of senior citizens. Specifically, the intergenerational center of Ourense houses in the same building the nursery school and a day center for the elderly in order to promote personal autonomy and the prevention of dependency. The Arteixo center, on the other hand, consists of a nursery school and a residence for the elderly with a day care center.
This commitment to the creation of shared spaces for children and adults to live together, interact and exchange experiences not only responds to needs linked to family reconciliation, but also acts on a broader concept of welfare by increasing the opportunities for active and quality aging that the elderly are offered.
