In November 2025, the Amancio Ortega Foundation signed a collaboration agreement with ASPRONAGA for the expansion of the Ricardo Baró Residential Center, located in the municipality of Oleiros (A Coruña). The Amancio Ortega Foundation will contribute twelve and a half million euros for its construction and equipment.
The total built area, which includes rooms (both double and single), residential facilities, common spaces, and landscaped outdoor areas, amounts to 7,000 m².
The Ricardo Baró Center was inaugurated in 1989 and offers individuals with intellectual disabilities not only residential care but also healthcare and basic services (medicine, nursing, physiotherapy, and personal care), as well as therapy, rehabilitation, and social inclusion services. The new building will be divided into two independent residential modules and will accommodate a total of 26 residents (10 minors and 16 adults), enabling ASPRONAGA to provide differentiated care for two types of residents: minors under the center’s care and adults with significant support needs.
To ensure comprehensive individualized care and both physical and cognitive rehabilitation, the new construction will facilitate small-group activities in more homogeneous settings, thereby improving the quality of life and well-being of individuals with intellectual disabilities.
