The AMANCIO ORTEGA FOUNDATION was set up before a notary on 10th July 2001. On the Order of the Regional Ministry of the Presidency and the Public Administration, the Amancio Ortega Foundation has been classified as a mixed foundation, (D.O.G. 11-09-01) and has been declared of interest to Galicia, (D.O.G. 25-09-01) having been registered in the Sole Registry of Foundations under number 2001/25. The Amancio Ortega Foundation responds to a personal initiative of its founder Amancio Ortega, and its lines of action are mainly intended towards the fields of Education and Social Aid. The Amancio Ortega Foundation, with its headquarters in the town Arteixo, Province of A Coruña, in Spain; its sphere of action is not only the Region of Galicia, but also national and international spheres.

The Amancio Ortega Foundation, guided by the experience and aspiration of its founder of contributing towards a better society, working with the interest of creating opportunities in two hey sectors so that people can develop quality lives; Education and Social Care. In the educational field, this institution makes its resources programmes available to its beneficiaries that enable them to grow and enrich their environment through full training. In the care area, the Amancio Ortega Foundation carries out as many actions of its own administration as partnerships with institutions that have consolidated their work thanks to the constant dedication for the benefit of the less advantaged people and environments.

The Amancio Ortega Foundation was created as a not-for-profit institution, which manages its own projects, assigns its resources, capital, work and knowledge in each one of the activities, which it decides to promote; its actions set a certain time for the management and conduct of its projects, from the search for new lines of action, to the evaluation of the results:

Amancio Ortega Gaona
Mr Amancio Ortega Gaona, President and Founder of Fundación Amancio Ortega [Amancio Ortega Foundation] set up the Foundation in 2001 on his personal initiative with the goal of offering his rich professional and personal experience in support of those members of the society who require special attention.

Mr Amancio Ortega is the founder of the Inditex Group. He began his textile manufacturing operations in 1963 and established the company Confecciones GOA, S.A. in 1972, the first garment-making factory of Inditex. Three years later, he founded Zara, the first distribution and retailing company of Inditex, a corporate group listed on the Spanish Stock Exchange since 2001.

Flora Pérez Marcote
Ms Flora Pérez Marcote, the spouse of Mr Amancio Ortega, became the Vice President of Fundación Amancio Ortega in 2005, after spending her whole professional career at the Inditex Group.
Board Members
Pablo Isla Álvarez de Tejera
Mr Pablo Isla Álvarez de Tejera has been a member of the Board of Trustees of Fundación Amancio Ortega since 2005. He is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Inditex Group. He is a law graduate from the Complutense University of Madrid and State lawyer.

Prior to joining the Inditex Group in 2005, Mr Isla was Director of Legal Services for Banco Popular, General Director of State Assets at the Ministry of Economy and Finances, and Chairman of Altadis Group. He also sits on the Board of Directors of Telefónica, S.A.

José Arnau Sierra
Mr José Arnau Sierra has been a member of the Board of Trustees of Fundación Amancio Ortega since it was established. Mr Arnau is the Deputy Chairman of the Inditex Group, which he joined in 1993. Additionally, he is the first executive of Pontegadea Group and sits on the Board of Directors of Gartler, S.L.

Mr Arnau is a law graduate from the University of Santiago and a Civil Servant of the Spanish Corps of Tax Inspectors. He has held different positions within the Tax Administration, has served on the Board of Directors of Banco Pastor and has taught Tax Law at the University of La Coruña.
Member - Secretary
Antonio Abril Abadín
Mr Antonio Abril Abadín has been a member of the Board and Secretary of Fundación Amancio Ortega since 2001. He is the General Counsel of the Inditex Group and Secretary of its Board of Directors. He is a law graduate from the University of Oviedo and State lawyer, office to which he was posted for five years.

Additionally, he is the Chairman of the Social Council of the University of La Coruña, and Deputy Chairman of the Foro de Marcas Renombradas [Forum of Leading Brands of Spain], among other offices held in national and international institutions. In the past, he has served on the Board of Directors of Banco Gallego and has taught Administrative Law at the University of La Coruña.
